China's BJT market spans established applications and distinct supplier roles

China’s BJT suppliers span device supply, wafer manufacturing and assembly services. Recent disclosures show why circuit requirements, customer adoption and production economics need to be assessed separately.

China's BJT market spans established applications and distinct supplier roles

Bipolar junction transistors remain part of everyday electronic systems, from appliance control boards and industrial interfaces to automotive auxiliary circuits. Chinese suppliers offer small-signal, power, pre-biased and Darlington products, while international manufacturers continue to report design wins in automotive and server power applications. For buyers assessing Chinese sources, the useful comparison concerns the device's circuit function, the supplier's manufacturing role and the evidence of customer adoption.

This article focuses on silicon bipolar junction transistors, or BJTs. It examines how China's existing product and manufacturing base translates into competition for specific projects. A broad distinction between domestic commodity products and imported high-end devices does not capture the differences among applications or suppliers.

Circuit functions determine the demand for different BJT products

Small-signal and power BJTs, pre-biased transistors with integrated resistors, and Darlington products fall within this discussion. MOSFETs, IGBTs and wide-bandgap devices based on materials such as SiC and GaN need separate analysis. A manufacturer can sell all these products without growth in one category indicating growth in its BJT business.

Small-signal BJTs perform amplification, switching and level-shifting tasks on control boards, interfaces and auxiliary driver circuits. Once current gain, leakage and switching behavior meet the electrical requirements, buyers also compare package size, dependable supply and purchasing cost. Replacing a qualified component may require circuit testing and an inventory transition, so unit price alone does not determine the cost of changing suppliers.

Power BJTs place greater emphasis on current handling, saturation voltage, thermal performance and safe operating area. A lower on-state voltage can reduce conduction losses, but the required base drive remains part of the assessment. Pre-biased products integrate resistors to reduce external component count. Darlington structures increase current gain while introducing their own on-state-voltage and turn-off considerations. A larger current rating is therefore not a universal measure of product quality or market position.

BJT product forms and circuit requirements

Figure 1. Main BJT product forms and their application priorities. The categories overlap and do not represent market size or share.

End-market demand reaches suppliers through these circuit positions. Consumer products impose cost and board-area constraints; industrial designs place weight on operating conditions and service life; automotive programmes require reliability and controlled changes. The BJT opportunity in a growing electric-vehicle or AI-server programme depends on the selected design and the number of devices used per system. It cannot be calculated directly from the end market's growth rate.

BJTs and MOSFETs can compete in some switching circuits and work together in other designs, including driver circuits. Wider adoption of MOSFETs or SiC devices consequently does not establish either the disappearance of BJTs or a benefit for every BJT supplier. Suppliers need applications that fit their processes, packages and customer experience.

The recent sources examined here do not support a consistent estimate of China's total BJT market or suppliers' market shares. Product availability and customer projects provide more specific evidence of progress than figures for the entire power-semiconductor sector.

Chinese suppliers cover device supply, wafer manufacturing and assembly services

Recent manufacturer announcements and interim reports show participation at several stages of the value chain. The following table distinguishes disclosed product scope from the role a company performs.

Supplier Disclosed products or projects Business role and status
JSCJ Small-signal, power, digital and Darlington transistors Device supply in packages including SOT, TO and DFN
Galaxy Microelectronics Small-signal and power transistors Integrated device manufacturing, alongside external assembly and test services
Jilin Sino-Microelectronics BJTs within its product portfolio Wafer manufacturing across multiple wafer sizes, serving several device categories
Yangjie Technology Small-signal products and BJT R&D testing capabilities Product and test capabilities within a diversified power-device business
Good-Ark Discrete-device OEM activities and a small-signal assembly and test project Assembly, test and OEM operations; the funded small-signal project remains in development
Blue Rocket Electronics Packaging for digital, small-signal and power transistors Specialist assembly and test services, with multiple package forms listed in its report

Sources: JSCJ's July 2026 manufacturer announcement and the other companies' 2026 interim reports. The table describes products and business roles, not market share or technical rankings. Small-signal projects are not necessarily composed entirely of BJTs.

A broad portfolio can help a supplier address multiple circuit requirements and give a buyer more choices within one supply relationship. Sustainable delivery still depends on the target device's operating conditions, supplied specification and consistency across production batches. Participation in die production, packaging and testing can help coordinate quality and lead times; whether that coordination lowers cost depends on process maturity, yield and utilisation.

Wafer and test platforms support device development and manufacturing. Jilin Sino-Microelectronics' range of wafer platforms and Yangjie's BJT testing capabilities are relevant indicators of that support. They do not establish the delivery capability of every individual product. A wafer line can serve multiple device types, so its total capacity cannot all be assigned to BJTs.

Assembly and test companies address another part of the purchasing requirement. Good-Ark's small-signal project includes facility planning, equipment selection, procurement, installation and commissioning. Planned capacity cannot yet be treated as fully available output. Blue Rocket's package illustrations show how transistor products can meet different board-assembly needs. Package choice affects heat dissipation and board area, while testing screens electrical parameters; both influence the quality of delivered devices.

Figure 2. Source figure retained from the Chinese edition, containing package illustrations from printed page 13 of Blue Rocket Electronics' 2026 interim report. English reading guide: the report lists TO-220F, TO-220, TO-252, TO-3P, DFN1006-3L, SOT-89, SOT-23 and SOT-323/363 package forms. The figure indicates package scope, not model sales or market ranking.

This range of participants gives China a supply base spanning devices, wafers, packaging and testing. It also creates a risk of double counting. Die sales, assembly processing and branded-device sales can relate to the same physical component at successive stages. Company revenue, assembly-and-test revenue and proprietary BJT sales cannot be placed in one market-share ranking without reconciling those boundaries.

International design wins identify automotive and server opportunities

Recent international disclosures show continuing opportunities for BJTs in specific applications. In earnings-call materials disclosed in May 2026, Diodes Incorporated said its ultra-low-saturation-voltage bipolar devices continued to secure design wins in battery-management systems and automotive radar. It also reported BJT design wins in AI-server power supplies. These statements describe customer design progress; they do not establish the shipment volume of an individual product.

Such disclosures provide more useful comparison targets than the general label “high-end transistor.” Automotive auxiliary circuits impose particular electrical, temperature and reliability requirements. In server power supplies, the device's function must also be identified. The application name alone does not place a BJT in the main power path, and adoption of an auxiliary device does not demonstrate a breakthrough in an entire power-supply design.

An onsemi BJT datasheet revised in January 2026 continues to emphasise low saturation voltage, current gain and package conditions. Each has a practical circuit implication. Saturation voltage influences conduction losses, gain affects drive requirements, and the package and PCB land arrangement affect thermal performance. Selecting only a low voltage or a large current figure can produce a misleading comparison.

For saturation voltage, the collector current, base current and temperature must accompany the result. Thermal comparisons need to distinguish ambient temperature, case temperature and test-board conditions. Permitted dissipation can change with the cooling arrangement even for the same device. Matching the package and headline ratings also does not remove the need to check pin assignments, electrical distributions and behavior in the actual circuit.

Conditions for comparing BJT products

Figure 3. Conditions to retain when comparing BJTs. This is an explanatory guide, not a model-specific test result, performance ranking or substitution recommendation.

Technical performance and commercial experience therefore need separate evidence. Recent Chinese disclosures establish participation in several BJT categories and manufacturing platforms. Diodes' design-win statements establish progress in particular customer projects. A catalogue does not demonstrate parity in every application, while the absence of a public customer announcement does not prove that a supplier lacks the relevant capability.

A defensible comparison follows one application through electrical performance, customer validation and the stability of production deliveries. The available sources do not support a single ranking of the entire industry or a conclusion that international manufacturers control every high-end BJT application.

Orders and production costs determine the earnings benefit of product upgrades

Company growth is an unreliable proxy for growth in the BJT market. Good-Ark reported approximately RMB 2.573 billion of H1 2026 revenue, including RMB 508 million from its semiconductor business and RMB 2.038 billion from new materials. Multiple businesses affect the consolidated result. Even the semiconductor figure includes several product types and cannot be assigned directly to BJTs.

The same distinction applies when a supplier expands into power modules, power-management ICs or wide-bandgap devices. Those businesses require separate accounting. Existing transistor customers and manufacturing resources may support a new product, depending on the actual connection between the projects. Rising new-product revenue does not automatically establish higher BJT prices or margins.

Within the BJT business, upgrading products has both a customer benefit and a supplier cost. A smaller package can save board area while imposing tighter packaging, thermal and testing requirements. Higher-reliability applications also require spending on validation, quality management and continued support. The product mix can improve profitability only if orders and selling prices cover those costs. Without category-level financial data, an industry-wide improvement in gross margin remains unproven.

Integrated device manufacturers and assembly-and-test providers face different operating constraints. An IDM coordinates wafer production, packaging and device sales, with plant investment requiring sufficient usable orders. A service provider must balance customer projects, processing capabilities and equipment utilisation. Moving from validation to volume orders can stabilise output, but its effect on profit still depends on yield, cost and cash collection.

China's BJT market already has a broad product and manufacturing-service base. Competition will be decided in identifiable projects: cost-sensitive circuits test unit cost and dependable delivery, while automotive and industrial applications require further evidence of reliability and supply continuity. The commercial progress to track is which validated circuits adopt those products, and whether repeated production orders generate sustainable earnings.
